Strengthening Civil Society

Nobody prescribed what a network should do. But we can learn from what they have done in the last 12 months.

When it works well, the Collective appears to make the whole of the social sector more than the sum of its parts.

At its inception, the Collective took on the values described in the Civil Society Futures report.

The Collective has decided not to establish any kind of formal organisation. It is a network of networks.

The BD_Collective is beginning its third year.

Ratio has brought together the learning from the second year of the Collective.

We are bringing a small group of community organisations and council services together once a month to talk through how we can help families resolve difficult situations.

The African proverb reminds us that it takes a village to raise a child. When the community comes together around children, children are safe and well.

We want to demonstrate what can be achieved in Thames Ward, and offer learning to the rest of the Borough.
