18. SRGs in Ctrl BOX
There is a recurrent theme in the group. How do we get other SRG members to see the potential of data and learning from it, as we do?
There is a recurrent theme in the group. How do we get other SRG members to see the potential of data and learning from it, as we do?
For over a year, we have been now talking, experimenting, learning, and reflecting about the data that may be useful to SRGs. The group is ready to pause, take stock, and decide on the final data points. These will make the basis of a ‘digital object’. What will they choose? To learn about their individual…
The group is interested in data in three areas. One, health; they want to know how being part of an SRG is helping with their wellbeing. Two, SRG dynamic; to what extent levels of connection, trust, and belonging (or the quality of ‘jellying’ to use member’s words) in the group affect their mission. Three, money; how is each member and the group doing financially (savings, profit).
The group working on the data project has decided to become a real SRG. A name was chosen— SRGs in Ctrl. Core to being in an SRG is to save money and give loans, a way of building trust within the group and between the group and other external parties like banks.
The group has moved from a simple one to 10 How are you feeling today? question asked daily on their WhatsApp to experimenting with collecting health data with six wearables (Apple Watch, Huawei band, Fitbit Inspire, Leaf Urban, Samsung Galaxy Fit, Healbe). The task is here is to learn from existing objects to be able to build our own.
We know we are at the forefront of radical change and we are not alone. Other people are working to change data and technology to work for the 21st Century citizen.
An object that works for everyone — who wants to be or is already in an SRG — and everywhere has been a core principle of the work.
Two members of the group have enrolled in an ethics course at Glasgow University, so thinking about ethics is on tap in the Wednesday sessions.
Let me show you what I would do with my information, if I had it.
A consensus emerged about the data that would be useful to SRG members, their groups, and the movement.
